Instant French bistro

Hello blog friends! Here’s a quick and silly post for a Monday morning. I hope you had a lovely weekend.

My mum and step dad came over for Sunday lunch yesterday (Mr V roasted a chicken, yum). I wanted to lay the table with a table cloth, but we didn’t have one that fit our table, as in our old flat we had a smaller, square one.

But! I did have three metres of Ikea’s Berta Ruta fabric in my stash. So… I draped it over the table, cut it off (neatly along the line of checks….

et voilà! Instant French bistro dining for four. All it needed was a jug of red flowers to complete the scene.

I liked it so much that I intend to sew it up properly for future use. (I think I’ll round the corners and edge it with bias binding, but more of that when it’s done).

I love tablecloths, I buy them all the time when they’re on sale at Zara Home! I think they make a great housewarming gift so I save them for that if I don’t keep them for myself 🙂

Oh, a table cloth is a great housewarming present! I’d have trouble giving them away though… 🙂

It’s really cute!! I love that idea. I don’t have any tablecloths for our table… I should get on that!

Dude! Get on that! Your table looks similar proportions to ours, and I found the longer side of the table was still smaller than the width of the ikea fabric (selvedge to selvedge), so it probably only took about a metre AND you only need to sew two hems instead of four!
(Or stay tuned for my version with bias binding, in my head it’s pretty but we’ll see how it works out).

Thank you! I love them but our stupid kitchen cupboards are too narrow for them! They were (mainly) a birthday present from Mr V.

When I originally commented I seem to have clicked on the -Notify me
when new comments are added- checkbox and from now on each time a comment is added I
get four emails with the same comment. There has to be an easy method
you can remove me from that service? Thank you!

Hello! I don’t think I can unsubscribe on your behalf (although I will look into it!) but I think there will be a link on the email you get from WordPress saying something like “manage your subscriptions” and that will take you through to a page where you can stop getting emails? I’m so sorry this has happened!
